چکیده

The Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory (TAHMO) is a promising initiative aiming to install 20,000 stations in sub-Saharan Africa counteracting the decreasing trend of available measuring stations. To achieve this goal, it particularly important that installed weather are cost-efficient, appropriate for African conditions, and reliably measure most variables hydro-meteorological applications. Since there exist no performance studies TAHMO while operating Africa, necessary investigate their under different climate conditions. This study provides first analysis 10 selected across Burkina Faso (BF). More specifically, consists missing value statistics, plausibility tests temperature (minimum, maximum) precipitation, spatial dependencies (correlograms) by comparison with daily observations from synoptical BF meteorological service as well cross-comparison between Based on results period May 2017 December 2020, concluded potentially offers reliable cost-efficient solution applications hydro-meteorology. usage wind speed measurements cannot be recommended without reservation, at least not bias correcting data. limited measurement still prevents its usability (impact) research. It also stressed replace existing observation networks operated local services, but can complement has great potential detailed analyses. restricted analysis, more evaluation needed considering environmental conditions SSA.

The Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory (TAHMO)

In this opinion article, we present the Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory (TAHMO). The goal of TAHMO is to develop a dense network of hydro-meteorological measurement stations throughout sub-Saharan Africa. On average, there will be one station per 1000 km2. The stations will be cost-effective through the use of new sensor and communication technologies. The station design is robus...

Non-physician Clinicians – A Gain for Physicians’ Working in Sub-Saharan Africa; Comment on “Non-physician Clinicians in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Evolving Role of Physicians”

The changing demands on the health sectors in low- and middle-income countries especially sub-Saharan African countries continue to challenge efforts to address critical shortages of the health workforce. Addressing these challenges have led to the evolution of “non-physician clinicians” (NPCs), that assume some physician roles and thus mitigate the continuing shortage of doctors in these count...

A New Generation of Physicians in Sub-Saharan Africa?; Comment on “Non-physician Clinicians in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Evolving Role of Physicians”

This commentary follows up on an editorial by Eyal and colleagues in which these authors discuss the implications of the emergence of non-physician clinicians (NPCs) on the health labour market for the education of medical doctors. We generally agree with those authors and we want to stress the importance of clarifying the terminology to describe these practitioners and of defining more formall...

Use of SAR data for hydro-morphological characterization in sub- Saharan Africa: a case study

In this paper we present the rationale and the preliminary results of a research project devoted to the appropriate and innovative use of remotely sensed data for water management in semi-arid regions. The study area is the district of Yatenga, northern Burkina Faso in the subSaharan belt of West Africa, where extreme climate conditions cause several problems: drought, floods, soil erosion. The...
